Hamlet's speech, again

Shakespeare quotes

Most people don't know the whole of Hamlet's most famous speech. They just content themselves with know the first line, "To be or not to be; that is the question." Well, here's the rest of it:
Hamlet:
To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them. To die—to sleep,
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to: 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep, perchance to dream—aye, there's the rub:*
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause—there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life.
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
Th'oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of dispriz'd love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of th' unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? Who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovere'd country, from whose born
No traveler returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all,
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pitch and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry
And lose the name of action.

*On Stephenie Meyer's website, if you read the little piece of New Moon from Edward's point of view, he says that line. I accidentally thought it was from Romeo and Juliet. Whoops, my mistake.

Editing the blog

This blog is no longer exclusively about books. I'll also have things about music and word origins and other things like that.

Night Drive (acoustic) by The All-American Rejects

This is a good song for Jacob at the end of Eclipse.

Playing the Villain by This Providence

This song was MADE for Rosalie.

Reach for the Sun by The Dangerous Summer

This is a really good song. It works very well for Edward in Twilight, at about the middle. I'm sorry the picture doesn't change, but it was the only video for the song.

Pentominoes

In the book Chasing Vermeer, and the rest of the series, one of the characters, Calder Pillay, has a kind of toy, or a math tool, called pentominoes. They are really fun to play with. You are supposed to make different shaped and numbered rectangles out of them. I have a set and have made a three piece, a six piece and a twelve piece. Don't ask me how I got the tweleve piece. I haven't a clue.
